NIST Researcher Chris Holloway Visits Kwan-tek: Advancing Quantum Sensing and Education

In September 2026, Kwan-tek welcomed Dr. Chris Holloway, a researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), to our company based in Ploemeur, France. The visit provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge on quantum sensing technologies, explore recent advances in Rydberg atom sensors, and showcase the KWANTEACH, Kwan-tek’s hands-on quantum physics education platform based on nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond.

Introducing KWANTEACH: A Hands-On Quantum Education Platform

The KWANTEACH is designed to make quantum physics and sensing technologies accessible to students through practical laboratory experiments. Based on nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond, the platform enables undergraduate and graduate students to explore fundamental quantum phenomena, including:

  • Hands-on quantum experiments: Optically Detected Magnetic Resonance (ODMR), Zeeman splitting, Rabi oscillations, Ramsey sequences, and spin coherence measurements.
  • Accessible experimental conditions: Quantum experiments conducted at room temperature, without the need for cryogenic cooling or vacuum systems.
  • A practical learning approach: Students assemble, align, and operate the experimental setup, developing skills in optics, electronics, and quantum measurement techniques
  • Educational resources: Dedicated software and a comprehensive Teacher’s Book to support instructors and students.

By simplifying access to quantum experiments, the KWANTEACH helps universities integrate experimental quantum physics into their teaching laboratories and prepares the next generation of scientists and engineers for the emerging quantum technologies landscape.

Bridging Research, Education, and Industry

As quantum technologies continue to evolve, collaborations between research institutions and technology companies are essential to connect scientific breakthroughs with real-world applications and education. At Kwan-tek, we develop NV-diamond-based quantum sensing solutions for applications such as magnetic field measurement, navigation, and non-destructive testing, alongside educational tools like the KWANTEACH.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Chris Holloway for his visit, his presentation on Rydberg atom sensing, and the enriching scientific discussions.
