Internship offer : Integration and optimization of a laser characterization bench M/F
Context
Kwan-Tek develops magnetic measuring instruments using the Nitrogen-Vacancy (NV) centre in diamond. These solutions are intended for applications such as industrial control or navigation. The quality of the measurement performed by these instruments is based in part on the quality of the laser source used for the optical excitation of the NV centers. In this context, it is essential to have a robust and reliable in-house solution to test and characterize the lasers that could be used.
Missions and responsabilities
The main objective of the internship is to improve the integration and use of the existing bench so that it can be used efficiently and routinely. Initially, the candidate will discover the activities of Kwan-Tek and will carry out a short literature review on the NV centres. Most of the internship will then be devoted to improving the existing test bench in terms of optics, control and integration. As far as possible, the software ergonomics of the bench can be improved, and a comparative study of different laser references can be initiated..
The candidate will be integrated into the Engineering team as part of the improvement of the laser characterization process. The missions to be carried out are as follows:
- Provide a robust optical bench for the characterization of free-space or fiber-coupled lasers
- Integration of all control electronics on the bench
- Improved temperature monitoring during measurements
- Developing a routine script for characterizations
- Development of a simple GUI / compiled application
- Writing of test bench documentation
- Laser diode selection: characterize laser diodes identified upstream by the Engineering team
Desired profile
Bachelor/Master’s degree in physics and/or instrumentation, you have technical knowledge in the following areas:
- Optics
- Basic knowledge of electronics
- Notions in Python
- Knowledge of Git would be a plus

Internship offer (6 month) : Electronics student M/F
Context
KWAN-TEK is a deep-tech start-up based in Ploemeur (Morbihan, France). Since 2020, the company has been developing and marketing metrology solutions using diamond-based quantum sensors for instrumentation, industrial control, and navigation applications. Our team is made up of people from different educational backgrounds, cultures, and experiences, with multidisciplinary technical expertise, particularly in physics, electronics, photonics, mechanics, and software.
Missions and responsabilities
Non-destructive testing (NDT) is essential for ensuring the quality and reliability of materials and structures without compromising their integrity. It enables defects to be detected during manufacturing, prevents failures, and optimizes maintenance. In a context where reliability and durability are priorities, the use of NDT is becoming a strategic lever for limiting risks, extending the life of equipment, and thus reducing costs. Kwan-tek is currently developing a non-destructive testing solution to meet this demand.
In this context, the aim of the internship is to develop an eddy current testing solution for NDT applications. To this end, the intern will be involved in the development of a system capable of generating an oscillating magnetic field, controlled in amplitude and frequency. After a phase of familiarization with the issues, the first two months of the internship will focus on defining the system architecture. The rest of the internship will be devoted to implementation and testing, from the electronic schematic to the final tests, including PCB routing and manufacturing. A phase of integration into the existing system is also to be developed, involving digital electronics in collaboration with KWAN-TEK engineers.
The candidate will join the Engineering team and their responsibilities will include:
- Anticipating and drafting a list of experimental tests to be carried out on the system with a view to experimentally validating its performance
- System simulation (LTspice, Python, etc.)
- C code for embedded systems
- PCB manufacturing (schematic, routing, wiring)
- Drafting technical reports
Required Profile
We are looking for a student in their final year of engineering school or master’s degree, with a solid knowledge in analog electronics and physics, enabling them to be comfortable with all the topics covered.
